Fruits found in Guyana

 Fruits 


Fruits are edible plant products which is required for good health and a source of micronutrients and bioactive products. They contain minerals such as sodium, potassium, calcium, zinc, magnesium, manganese and coper. Some small amount of pectin and starch makes up their components. Fruits can be fresh, canned or dried or chopped, whole or grind.

Examples of fruits are:

Hard fruits example apple and pears

Stone fruits example plums, mango, avocado pear

Citrus fruits example orange, lemon, tangerines

Berry fruits example strawberry, blackberry, raspberry

Currants examples red and black currants

Dried fruits example raisins, currants, dates

Miscellaneous example water melon, star fruit, pawpaw, banana


Advantages of fruit consumption

1-      They are sometimes use as filles in diets

2-      Aid in adding natural fructose to the body

3-      They add minerals to the body

4-      They are sometimes use as home remedies to ailments

5-      They are use to add fluids to the body

6-      They are use as distractors in some meals

7-      They are use to prepare natural juices

8-      They provide the body with antioxidants (healing ointments) e.g. flavonoids

9-      Some fruits are use to relieve dehydration

10-  They are rich in fibre

11-  Care for the skin, aid in slowing down aging

12-  Controlling hormones

     -Reduces the risk of developing heart disease, cancer, inflammation, and diabetes are reduced.

 - Lowers blood pressure  

     

 Disadvantages

If too much of some fruits are consumed, they can lead to illness example banana which add potassium to the body can cause irregular heart beats in the body when taken in excess amount, ripen mangoes can lead to dehydration due to diarrhea mangoes are rich in sorbitol and fibre. 

Some of these fruits are advise not to be taken with some medication examples grape fruit is advise not to be taken with blood pressure medication since it blocks/slow down the absorption of the medication reducing the potency/desired results of the medication.

Sweet fruits taken regularly and in large quantity can have effects on the teeth and also on the high intake and storage of sugar in the body leading to weight gain.

The excessive consumption of water melon can lead to excessive urine production and loss of minerals from the body this can lead to a medical complication.

All this is said to say take ever thing in its correct proportion.
